Three Secrets to a Fulfilling Fall

Fall is that glorious time between summer and the holidays. The weather cools down, and we get those final weeks of the year to do home projects before turning our focus to holiday prep.

This is a time for extreme ambition and production, and I find that some people become overwhelmed and end up stuck. Again. I’m challenging you to focus on 3 SIMPLE tasks that will make your projects successful and worth the investment.

Tip 1: Tackle the Garage

This one might be at the top of your list; there’s a good reason for that! With cooler and drier weather, fall is the perfect time organize your garage. Pick a weekend (or weekends) where you have the most availability, and declutter it in sections. Start with discarding and donating all of your unused items. Next, assess what organizational tools you might need to add- such as shelving, rubber totes, wall hanging systems, etc.  And lastly, consider the zones your garage has, and whether or not they are working. If your garage has zero structure or this is something you need help with, call us!

Tip 2: Turn Your Hangers Around

Seems simple enough, right? Entering a new season is the perfect time to figure out what clothing you REALLY wear, and what simply takes up space in your closet.

1. Turn all your hangers around backwards.

2. After wearing items in your wardrobe, return the worn and laundered items with the hanger placed correctly on the rack.

3. In January, look at what items remain untouched (the hanger will still be backwards). Of course, I’m talking about everyday clothing (not those fancy ballgowns and suits you need occasionally).

4. Say goodbye. I know, it’s hard. But if you’ve passed it up for 3 months, there’s a reason. You will feel immense freedom in letting go.

Tip 3: Don’t Go Crazy on the Fall Decor

Among the seasonal decorators I have found those who do it well, and those who don’t. What determines the difference? Intention and space! Do not buy another cute pumpkin for your mantel until you know exactly where you will store it the other 10 months of the year. Also for a styling tip: Opt for pillow covers that fit your everyday pillows. Then you only have a cover to store, verses a bulky pillow.

I hope this was helpful in launching your into a fall where you can truly accomplish those projects you’ve been waiting to do. Most importantly, I hope the newfound organization in your home promotes increased peace and quality time with loved ones.
